This pergola was made for a wedding. The wedding was to take place at a yacht club on the water. A beautiful location. Now I don’t know about you but from what I understand woman start planning these things out when they are young. She knew exactly what she wanted and what it was supposed too look like. This helped me dramatically. So when the young lady called me up asking if I could make it for her before the wedding, I said ,”Sure no problem.”
It takes me a few hours to come up with a plan at the Wall Woodworks shop. Then its off to the clients home to fabricate on site, test the whole assembly to make sure all of the parts fit well, and that it was structurally sound. The day of the wedding I get there early, get the pergola set up, and assembled. Then since everyone is running around doing this and that, prepping for the wedding I do some running around myself and get changed into my wedding attire. Then the unthinkable happens.
Since we were so close to the water and its about an hour too the ceremony the wind decides its good time to go from 10mph to about 35-40mph. The pergola is top heavy and gets blown over. So there I am in my suit putting the thing back together with the help of a few others. We reassembled everything, tied it off like a boat, and the ceremony went off without a hitch. The bride was not told till after the day was coming to a close since she had enough on her mind.
