This little bench was made from a cast aside maple headboard and foot board as seen in the picture below. I started by splitting the foot board in half on the table saw. Then laying out the tenon length. Cutting the tenons on the table saw (which made a ton of smoke by the way. The shoul
der cuts were easy, but when I stood then up to do the cheek cut… yikes. I could only cut one then I had to take a break and let my shop air out. The hardest part of making this thing was drilling the holes for the mortises. The tenon was fairly tall, either 16 or 18 inches, about 3/8″ thick, and 1 3/4″ long.

ond hardest part was figuring out where to place the front style and how to make it. I used one solid 1×12″ piece and made the tenons a lot shorter this time. Only about 1″ long. Then placing it as low and back as far as possible so as to miss the small detail for the arm rests. Now its off to the paint shop.
